So, Josh and I were watching "Modern Family" last night and there's a part where this Columbian mother makes her son breakfast. As she cheerfully gives it to him, he says, "What? What is this?" She says, "What do you mean, this is your breakfast!" He responds with, "Where is my hardboiled egg?" She says, "Well, I decided to try something new--scrambled eggs!" Then he responds with , "Mom, you can't just throw this at me!" She responds, with a funny but thought-provoking line -- "Son, life is going to throw many harder curveballs than this."
I really like it because I have not had the best things happen to me today.
1) Cloudy. Again. Where is spring hiding, and when will it be warm and sunny for good?
2) Josh and I were all packed for the color festival, we left 30 minutes early and then got stuck on the interstate for 40 minutes and missed the only throw of the day we could make. I was super bummed. Mad at the traffic, made at whoever designed the roads, etc.
3) Josh spent about 1 hour going over taxes yesterday at H&R Block and apparently they did it wrong and made it so we would receive about $1000 less than we should have so we have to go back.
4) An anonymous car has been parked in our spot for over 9 hours. We have had to haul groceries to and from the street, our permanent spot for the day even though we pay for that parking spot! And we can;t call it to be towed because our complex doesn't have an official sign.
5) The place we've been looking at that's for Rent, we think it's been sold because the sign's been taken down.
I was bummed. Annoyed. Frustrated .Filled with annoyance and anger almost all day. Then I tried complaining to my mom. And she responded basically the same way that the Columbian mother did. Except sarcastically. It still got across the same message. My mom said, "Amy, how do you deal with such big problems in your life? I don't even know how you survive day to day."
I laughed. And realized, yes, annoying things have happened today, but humans are imperfect, life has trials, and we've GOT to learn to handle these roadblocks, because I'm pretty sure, life will throw harder curveballs than this.
Super cute blog Amy! I hope things are good for you and Josh (besides your bummer day of course!). I love reading about your love for teaching! I'm sure you are a great teacher... always learning and growing along with your students.
