I love my job. I really do. I have a brilliantly cute class and my favorite thing is to think of fun ways we can learn.
Yesterday, we explored the properties of minerals. It went so well! They loved being able to try out mineral's streak, break small pieces of mica off and see the plane of cleavage it left, look through a magnifying glass at color, and luster. They also got to use a scale to test a mineral's specific gravity.
It was really fun.
Until we got to the end-all discussion. The clincher. The climax. The tie-it-up.
Then I had kids messing around with magnifying glasses, staring off into space, etc.
So I talked to my mom, my husband, and myself (not out loud....well, maybe.)
And I decided to do a little skit next Monday:
Larry Luster- carrying a lantern
Sally Specific Gravity-carrying a scale
Sam Streak (no he's not going to go streaking)-carrying a bucket of sidewalk chalk
and Cameron Cleavage (yes I made it a boy for obvious reasons)-- carrying a hammer
I will take pictures and keep those posted to remind them of mineral's properties.
Sounds fun? Hopefully memorable. That's what I'm going for.
Did I tell you I love my job?
Now if they could just double my pay.......
I read the skit, and it is TERRIFIC! Your students are very blessed to have such a creative teacher, but it all started years ago with the skits Laura P, Kelsey and you used to put on in the basement. Don't worry about students' not answering all the questions right. You've taught them volumes by letting them touch, feel and explore. They'll remember those experiences far longer than you realize.
ReplyDeleteAmy I didn't know you had a blog... or I forgot.. either way I am so excited that I found/remembered! Your class sounds like so much fun! We need to plan a trip where you Ang and Haylee all hangout and I tag along like I always do!
