Sleep....what's that again?

haha, these make me laugh. Especially because Josh and I are going through it right now. People told us having a newborn makes you sleep deprived. I didn't really believe them until now!

What I've learned is that it's not that bad that he wakes up 2-3 times in the night. It's that he takes a long time to eat and sometimes to go back to sleep so by then I've been up for an hour! So it's something like go to bed at 10, wake up at midnight, go back to sleep at 1, wake up at 3, stay awake until 4, go to sleep, wake up at 6, stay awake until 7, etc.

The other thing is figuring out why he won't sleep. He doesn't like his swing very much OR the bassinet we have. We don't have a crib yet, but I don't know if he'd sleep in that either! Today, we had tried putting him down for several naps but he wouldn't. He would fall asleep in my arms and then when we'd put him down, he'd cry. We made sure diaper was clean, he was fed, etc.

Finally, we resorted to this. It's warm and fuzzy and it lulls him to sleep! Jackpot. I know it doesn't fit we don't care. :)

We know it's just part of having a newborn. We love him no matter what time of day it is! It's just a rite of passage. We are glad we can say we survived it. Especially when it's over. :)

  1. Have you tried baby wearing with a sling or wrap. Nolan is so tiny, he might just want to snuggle to keep warm. I was able to wear both my children when they were babies and do odd house keeping jobs while they slept.

See if you can borrow one from a friend.

  2. If you can't find someone local, I could let you borrow my Moby Wrap.

    1. I have 2 wraps, but they both require the baby to be at least 7-8 lbs and he's only 5 1/2 lbs so I'm nervous to put him in one yet. As soon as he's big enough, I think the slings will be my best friend!!

  3. Love him in that fuzzy hoodie! It looks huge but I bet it's tiny in real life! Just think of it like freshman year... we never slept then, either, also at the fault of boys. Haha. Keep up the great attitude! You'll get through it, it definitely doesn't last forever!
