For those of you who wondered, I'm loving teaching computers.
LOVE:
*seeing every student. I love knowing kids from every grade.
*getting to play fun games like "Bear's Word Skateboard" with cute 1st graders and then the same day teach 6th graders how to make a google survey. Such variety!
*Not having to take home work usually.
*Coming home to Nolan by 1:30 in the afternoon!
I MISS:
*being on a grade level team
*getting to know a certain set of students really well
*teaching many different subjects
*Helping kids with all sorts of problems they're having--social, behavioral, familial, academic, etc!
*The camaraderie of the other teachers when we attend meetings and professional development :)
Overall, I am happy with my decision and really leaning into this new position and soaking it up.
The only thing I did not anticipate with this change was how misfit I would feel.
Working part-time kinda means I'm not really a part of the stay-at-home mom gang, also as I am not much interested in knitting and cooking, and I'm not really part of my school either, as I am only there 4 days a week and don't attend any meetings or team collaborations. I admit that, with this change, as well as my sister moving away, I have never felt quite so lost and lonely. I know all things will pass, and I am trying to reach out to other moms and other working women.
I guess I am a woman in 2 worlds now.
There is a time and a season for everything. It will get better, promise.
ReplyDeleteIf it makes you feel any better, you are definitely not alone in feeling this. I think the early stages of being a mother can be isolating. It's mostly just us and our little ones going throughout our day, putting him #1 so naps and grumpies and whatever else make it hard to really be with friends. I'm hoping when they get bigger and play dates are a really regular thing and they have pre-school or co op friends there are more automatic ways to see friends for us!
ReplyDeleteDon't feel like because you work part time or you're not into specific homemakey things that you don't fit in with the stay at home moms! I think a chunk are what you would think of as fitting in, and then a whole lot of others are different for some reason or another, and there's definitely no right or wrong about what you are interested or like or anything. You are awesome.
Good luck with teaching computers! That sounds fun! I hope you can find your niche with part time. MIss & love you! Text or call me anytime! It's still 217-840-7320.
