Beginning of School!!

It was a really hard decision to decide what to do this year for school, thanks to the COVID pandemic. We love their school, Copper View. But things were so up in the air. Would it be full classes, how would they keep kids apart? Would it be good for their development to be apart from their friends? Would they hate it? Would it take away all of the fun parts of school? Would they have to quarantine every time they had a case in the school?

We decided to go with Prenda microschool. I feel guilty that it is a charter school and takes away from public money. I feel guilty enrollment is down by 50% at Copper View. But I wanted a safe place where my kids could interact with other kids. They go to Cassie Sevy's house and I know her and she was a teacher before. There are about 7 in the class, K-2. The boys can go together. (They do wrestle a lot but we're working on that, haha). I feel guilty Bennett doesn't get a fun kindergarten year like Nolan. But that is what it is I suppose.

The boys like their school. I think they miss their friends and I am looking forward to returning to CV next year. It's from 8:45-12:45 4 days a week. it's a good balance. They do lots of art. They do their core subjects on the computer which I like that it is student led but I think they're missing out on direct instruction and class discussion. I'm worried Bennett won't get a good foundation in reading and writing.

I do really like having the time to myself though (and Ellis). I exercise and work on my class. I am getting my Reading Endorsement so I can be a reading specialist!

Melody came over on their first day and did a fun back to school breakfast with the boys. The boys have to wear masks to school. 2020 is so weird.
