I try to *at least* blog once a month. But there happened to be a lot last month so I'll try to summarize...
KELSEY'S VISIT
Kelsey came for a week and we had so much fun!! We watched chick flicks, went shopping, made rice krispie treats, went on walks, swimming, to the park, ate cereal and had a generally giggly time! Nolan adored her and Bennett even let her hold him a few times!
BENNETT
9 months old!
* Loves solid food most of the time. Sometimes he pigs out, sometimes he barely picks at it. But we discovered he likes smoothies! We rejoiced at a way of getting healthy food in him, that is not bread!
**He is getting more stable at sitting. I still don't feel comfortable leaving him alone for very long, especially on a hard floor. But he is falling over less and less.
***The physical therapist is currently working with him on standing. He likes it but not for super long. We are behind him helping him but he sometimes gets brave enough to let go!
**He is getting very wiggly at night! We had a wedge and positioners in places to help with his reflux but he is all over the place now so the pediatrician told us to have nothing in there but a sheet! He gets his legs stuck through the slats though. Also, the g tube gets wrapped around his feet sometimes!
*We are done with oxygen! It has officially been taken out of our house! Oh, happy day! After 9 long months of oxygen, we are certainly glad he can breathe without help! He still has a respiratory rate. The surgeon even suggested we consider surgery again because his RR is still high and it is still making it hard for me to gain weight and grow and develop. The pulmonologist said no though!
**He likes to talk, though it's mostly sounds that almost sound like he's mad! His screeches are the cutest though. Nolan and I will say, "Bennett is so squeaky!" and "Bennett, what are you trying to say to us?"
***He was a pretty fussy baby from 0-6 months and it's gotten better since he could sit up because of the reflux and his other medical issues. He is really turning into the sweetest little guy. He has a quiet, peaceful, and observant personality.
NOLAN
*Nolan has had an obsession with dinosaurs, but it's kind of moving to trains.
**He loves "Dinosaur Train", "Little Engine that Could" and "Land Before Time".
***He asks me for a train table like every single day, 100 times a day.
** He likes puzzles, dinosaurs, trains, pushing his train scooter to the park.
* He's been having a hard time sharing lately.
**We read a book called "Mine-o-saur" about a dinosaur that doesn't share and thinks everything his. We've talked about how at the end, he had all the toys and no friends. When Nolan is not sharing, I say, "You're being a mine-o-saur!"
***He says, "Will is my best friend!" though sometimes he and Will act like teenage girls and one day they're friends, the next day they're not.
**He does preschool one day a week. It is an informal "mom" preschool. We all take turns teaching. I have April. I will write about it how it goes :) He likes it. The other moms who had hosted so far have said that Nolan likes to talk and he is good at puzzles. I think that sums him up pretty well!
*We do learning activities together. I have a "calendar" board and talk about days of the week, weather, months, day of the month, every day. It's fun. We also do a "number train" activity together and songs.
*He loves Bennett. He sometimes smothers him but it is cute. His favorite game is putting his head in Bennett's lap and Bennett grabs and pulls his hair. It's funny!
**He is obstinate and stubborn. He is often heard exclaiming, "No, I will not!" and will argue with you about every face, even if I am obviously right.
***He says, "That's embarrassing.", "Point of fact..." and "Dinosaurs are awesome!"
**He loves talking about poop. He tells me 100 times a day that Bennett poops in his diaper, and that he and I poop in the potty.
Nolan on St. Patrick's Day. I said "smile and say Happy St. Patrick's Day!" and he said, "Happy Christmas, Mom!"
EASTER
We had an FHE with some friends and we watched a Mormon Message video, showed pictures of Christ and talked about Easter, and colored eggs. It was fun, albeit a little nuts!
Melody came with us to a neighborhood Easter egg "hunt". They really just laid all the eggs on the lawn and everyone could have "10". There was a jumpy castle too and donuts! Nolan hated the wind though. He says "Stop it, wind"! He insisted on having the blanket over his face to block it. Ha!
On Easter, Bennett went to church for the first time! It was wonderful to have our whole family there for the first time in 9 months. It made all the painful, lonely Sundays worth it. We have definitely learned not to take things for granted, with Bennett!
Phew! I think that is everything.
